Pregnant women can now register pregnancy and access care notes in Blackpool

on 13 June 2022

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the latest trusts to rollout BadgerNet where pregnant women can register their pregnancy and access their care notes digitally.

At the beginning of June 2022, BadgerNet was launched at the Trust which enables pregnant women to register their pregnancy and get access to their records, removing the need to book an appointment with a GP before being referred to maternity care services.

Badger Notes is also an available service through BadgerNet, providing a digital portal that replaces paper notes and provides real time updates for pregnant women throughout their pregnancy.

Midwives can input notes and information into records without having to provide the same information in paper format, providing more time to focus on women and babies in their care.

Maternity care notes and details are updated in real time after each appointment.

Interim Deputy Head of Midwifery, Lisa Fitzgerald, said: “We are excited to take our journey to the next level and join our local maternity service colleagues in launching BadgerNet at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. BadgerNet will give our families easier access to their notes and puts families at the centre of their care, enabling us to continue to improve our commitment to person-centred care.”

Pregnant women can download the app on their smartphone or tablet to keep track of their records, secure diary entries and add photos. Women can also submit thoughts and questions to their midwife through the app which can be addressed and discussed at their next appointment.

A full library of leaflets on pregnancy are also available through the app.

Midwives will be able to provide the women in their care the details needed to set up a BadgerNotes account at the start of their pregnancy.

BadgerNet is provided by Clevermed Ltd and has already been rolled out by multiple trusts across the UK.
