From 1 February 2021 MIDIRS will have a new website and the Maternity and Infant Care (MIC) database will have a new platform. The new developments will provide innovative ways in which midwives, MSWs and student can access information resources.

If you are a subscriber to MIDIRS Midwifery Digest or the Maternity and Infant Care (MIC) database, please read our questions and answers below to find out how you can create your account and keep accessing MIDIRS services:

The cost of my MIDIRS subscription is going up. Why?

As part of our new subscription offer, all subscribers now receive automatic access to both MIDIRS Midwifery Digest and the Maternity and Infant Care (MIC) database.

As a current subscriber your subscription price will not change until it is time to renew. However, you will start paying monthly instead of quarterly if you did not choose to pay annually at the start of your subscription from 1st February 2021.

To spread the cost of your subscription, we will be offering annual or monthly payments instead of quarterly from 1st February 2021 for new subscribers.

I currently subscribe to MIDIRS Midwifery Digest only. Why am I being given access to the database (when I do not need it/want it)?

Access to the database is part of our new subscription offer and is now available to all subscribers. As a student/midwife you will find the database an essential source of information offering over 290,000 article references and 550 pre-prepared literature search packs to choose from.

This is the largest midwifery-specific database in the world and contains ‘grey literature’ (such as government reports, parliamentary proceedings, newspaper articles) that are unavailable in other databases.

When will the price of my subscription change?

The cost of your subscription will change on the date of your next renewal when we will contact you regarding your new payment details. In the meantime, you will still be able to access both MIDIRS Midwifery Digest and the Maternity and Infant Care (MIC) database as part of your new package.

I am a UK student midwife and would like to pay for my subscription by credit card.

Unfortunately, the option to pay by credit card no longer applies to students. You can however pay by Direct Debit.

I am an overseas student and have heard that MIDIRS now offers a student rate?

That is correct. The rate for overseas students is now £76 per year – a saving of £19 (for EU students) and £24 (for ROW students). Your subscription package will include access to both MIDIRS Midwifery Digest and the Maternity and Infant Care (MIC) database

I currently pay to access MIC Database only. Why am I suddenly being offered access to MIDIRS Midwifery Digest and asked to pay more?

As part of our new subscription offer, all subscribers now receive automatic access to both MIDIRS Midwifery Digest and the Maternity and Infant Care (MIC) database. As a result, we have had to implement some changes to our subscription prices.

Do I have a choice of receiving a PDF or print copy of MIDIRS Midwifery Digest?

Yes, you can choose to receive a PDF version of the Digest or a print version. If you choose to receive the PDF version of MIDIRS Midwifery Digest you will receive this through the e-mail address you subscribed with.

How much does a MIDIRS subscription cost for RCM Members?

RCM Members will get 20% off their MIDIRS Midwifery Digest and Maternity and Infant care (MIC) database subscription. If you are a student RCM member, you will still receive 20% off your subscription, providing you with even better value in accessing information resources.

This offer is available from 1st February 2020. Please have your RCM Membership number to hand when subscribing to take advantage of this offer.

Why are RCM Members being offered a preferential rate?

Now that MIDIRS is part of the RCM, we are able to offer members a discounted MIDIRS subscription rate as part of their RCM Membership package.

MIDIRS subscribers who are not RCM Members will also benefit from combined access to MIDIRS Midwifery Digest and the Maternity and Infant Care (MIC) database for which the standard rate has not increased.

MIDIRS transferred to the RCM in April 2019. It is our aim to provide affordable and easy access to both RCM and MIDIRS resources. The combination of both, provide a strong educational resource platform for all students, midwives and MSWs.

I would like to take advantage of the MIDIRS subscription discount, but I do not currently hold RCM Membership.

To benefit from the special RCM discounted subscription rate, you must be an RCM Member. To find out more details click here.

Alternatively, email membership@rcm.org.uk  or call 0300 303 0444. Once you have registered as an RCM Member you will then be eligible for the MIDIRS discounted subscription rate.

I am a MIDIRS subscriber AND an RCM Member. When will my MIDIRS subscription rate change to the discounted rate?

The cost of your subscription will change on the date of your next renewal when we will contact you regarding your new payment details. In the meantime, you will still be able to access both MIDIRS Midwifery Digest and the Maternity and Infant Care (MIC) database as part of your new package.

I am having problems logging in to the Database. Can you help me please?

If you have having difficulty logging in to the Database, please contact Customer Services by e-mail: midirs.helpdesk@rcm.org.uk.

I have resources saved in the Maternity and Infant Care (MIC) database. Will they still be there when I create my new account?

Unfortunately, due to the Maternity and Infant Care (MIC) database moving to a new platform, we are unable to transfer saved resources from your personal folders into your new account. We apologise for this inconvenience. We recommend you make a note of the resources you wish to keep and add them to your new account or print them off. You will be able to save ‘Favourites’ in the newly launched MIC  to enable this function, simply click Request a login on the welcome page.

I used to subscribe to MIDIRS Midwifery Digest only. Now that I have access to the Database, how do I go about logging in?

Right now you don’t have to do anything. When our new website launches 1st February 2021 however you will need to create a new account with us using the same e-mail address you used for your existing subscription. If you don’t know your e-mail address or no longer have access to the e-mail address you used, please e-mail: midirs.helpdesk@rcm.org.uk.

Will you still be offering one-off products like literature Search Packs and Bespoke Searches?

Yes! If you’re looking to purchase single literature Search Packs or need a Bespoke Search you will still be able to purchase these from our new website. These products will be sent to you by e-mail only following your purchase.

I wish to order a Search Pack and notice that MIDIRS subscribers can access Search Packs free of charge. Is that right?

Yes. That is correct. A MIDIRS subscription provides access to not only MIDIRS Midwifery Digest but the Maternity and Infant Care (MIC) database, where over 550 pre-prepared literature searches are available to view at no extra charge. Subscribers can also search for and download specific articles from MIDIRS Midwifery Digest free of charge.

As a student/midwife you will find the database an essential source of information offering access to over 290,000 article references and the previously mentioned literature Search Packs. This is the largest midwifery-specific database in the world and also contains ‘grey literature’ (such as government reports, parliamentary proceedings, newspaper articles) that are unavailable in other databases.
