NIHR Nursing and Midwifery Research Careers Advisory Service

on 16 June 2021

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Nursing and Midwifery Incubator has launched a virtual advisory service, in partnership with the NIHR Research Design Service (RDS), to support nurses and midwives to start and advance their clinical academic research careers.

The service was trialled across three RDS regions, with the service now being piloted in all RDS regions in England which are supported by advisors in the North West, East Midlands and the South East.

This next phase will be piloted for four months, providing insight on how best to provide the service and to make a decision to roll out nationwide.

Midwives and nurses will be able to use the service to learn more about academic research careers and how to balance clinical practice and perusing academic work simultaneously.

Those who have already started their clinical academic career will be also be able to use the service to explore career pathways and moving forwards.

This service will also provide advice on how to apply for and increase your chances of successfully securing NIHR research fellowship funding.

The Nursing and Midwifery Research Careers Advisory service pilot started 14 June and will run until 30 September 2021 before a decision will be made to roll it out nationally.

More information about the service can be found here.
