on 23 June 2021

The Wellbeing of Women (WoW) Awards , in partnership with the Royal College of Midwives (RCM), is now accepting applications for the 2021 WoW-RCM Entry-level Research Scholarships for 2021.

The scholarships provide successful applicants with funds to enable midwives to be exposed to a research environment and obtain pilot data that will enhance an application for a research fellowship (PhD or MD).

Applications are being accepted from midwives for research in: pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period, gynaecological cancers, and general wellbeing surrounding women’s reproductive and gynaecological health.

The upper limit for these awards is £20,000 for directly incurred research costs and may include a salary contribution.

As part of RCM’s Race Matters campaign applications are being encouraged from midwives who identify as Black, Asian or an ethnic minority.

Applications are also being welcomed if the research aims to improve the health outcomes for people in these communities.

Executive Director Midwife at the RCM, Birte Harlev-Lam, said: “Midwifery research is vital to improving care for women, babies and their families, but we know it can be difficult and daunting to make those first steps in research, and that is why these scholarships are so important.

“This is not also just about funding. Each successful applicant will also be guided and supported through their project by expert midwife researchers. So don’t worry if you are brand new to research, help and advice will be there for you.”

The deadline for applications is: 1pm on Thursday 12 August 2021.
